My background
JR has been publishing in various genres, including poetry, creative nonfiction, short stories, and novel-length fiction.
Along with an MFA in Creative Writing, JR has extensive experience editing print and online literary magazines.
JR has been teaching Creative Writing and working with creatives at a university level for over 13 years.
JR's Writing Roots
I began writing poetry as a child but was fascinated and highly influenced by fantasy, horror, sci-fi, romance, and literary fiction.
I was lucky to study under many amazing writers and mentors who encouraged me to use all those influences in my writing.
JR's style
I always read everything I could get my hands on. I was fascinated by a wide range of genres, and could never see the dividing lines between them so I began to incorporate craft from each genre into my writing.
Blending these genres, tropes and techniques have influenced and informed my writing.
